AUSTRALIA'S BEST BUTT

Finalists Announced from Heat 1 - Longreach for AUSTRALIA'S BEST BUTT!!!

Stan Lees and Amy Savage

Hundreds flocked to the Cattleman's Grill last night for the first Heat for Australia’s Best Butt.

The competition was fierce but in the end the outback bums came out in droves. The winners of last night's heat were Stan Lees, who is a Driveway Attendant, and the female best butt went to Amy Savage, who is a Development officer for DEET, both locals from Longreach

There were two titles up for grabs Female & Male. There was some fierce competition on show, they were droopy, big, small, tight and we won’t mention the rest…, at the end of the day, the Finalists from Longreach (Male & Female) will now go on to compete for the prestigious title of having AUSTRALIA’S BEST BUTT. Finals will be held at the Julia Creek Dirt & Dust Festival 16-18th April 2010.

Dirt & Dust Coordinator Margie Ryder said she was ecstatic with the amount of people who turned up, I think it shows the strength in this “Quirky idea” and hopes the phone runs hot for a sponsor to help take it Australia wide in the coming years.

Local Stan Lees stole the show with his moves that gave him the title, he added some great dance struts, which got the crowd screaming, it was a laugh. The “heat” really got on when over 12 members from the Longreach Health & Fitness turned up with their very tight bottoms, they then gave everyone some tips in health and fitness and put the challenge out there for next year!! Join up and you too can have a Butt like this.

OQTA Chairman Tony Edwards had the hardest Job on the night as he was awarded one of the Judges Badges. When asked why this Contest was popular, he said “I think the word is getting out there, that this is a quirky, fun competition which showcases the Outback spirit. It is full of larrikins, laughs and humour. It is not a glamour competition - far from it. It is like Australian Idol - it is a performance and if the audience love ya they will cheer you on, but if you do a bad performance you are off the stage pretty quick”.

When asked whether people in the Outback have better bottoms than the City Folk... hmm, well don’t go there because we are all a bit biased here. Margie does believe however that people in the Outback have better bums!! BUT the proof will be in the pudding - Other heats are planned which include the city, so lets see where we go from there.

The Best Butt competition started off about 6 years ago as a “fill in” one night during a Mental as Anything concert which was part of the Dirt & Dust Festival. It was such a huge success that it became part of the regular program and has grown each year since.
